    How to Win

If your numbers match, you could be a winner! Reference the chart below to see the various game payouts and to understand how you can win more with Power Play!

For payout and prize information related to tickets purchased for a drawing prior to October 4th Powerball changes, visit the Powerball FAQ tab.

*In certain rare instances these prizes may be paid on a pari-mutuel basis, and will be lower than these published prize levels. For the jackpot prize, if two or more people match all six winning numbers, that jackpot is shared equally among the winners. After receiving an initial payment shortly after the prize is claimed, the initial jackpot winner(s) will receive their prize in annual installments over a 29-year period unless, within 60 days from the date they claim their prize, they request the cash option method of payment. Power Play increases non-jackpot prizes only. Note that any set prizes or Power Play prizes, including the Match 5+0 prizes, may be reduced if wins exceed the available prize fund. For a current estimate on the cash amount for Powerball, Mega Millions, and Lotto, contact the Illinois Lottery.

**Power Play is a special feature that increases the value of prize levels 3 through 9 by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 times if a player purchased the Power Play feature. The Power Play number will be randomly drawn at the time of the Powerball drawing. The 10X multiplier is available on initially advertised jackpots up to and including $150 million. The Match 5+0 prize doubles to $2,000,000 with Power Play! A player must choose the Power Play option when they buy their Powerball ticket to qualify for the Power Play prizes.

NEWS ABOUT POWERBALL GAME IN ILLINOIS

Why is the Lottery halting Powerball and Mega Millions sales?

The groups that own and operate these two popular games will not permit Illinois to sell the games without funds available to pay prizes. The Illinois Lottery must have an appropriation from the legislature to fund the prize payments, which has not yet happened.

Can I still play Mega Millions and/or Powerball online?

If the Lottery does not receive a Fiscal Year 2018 appropriation prior to June 28, Powerball sales at retail locations and online will be suspended after the draw on that day and until further notice. Similarly, after the June 30 draw, Mega Millions sales at retail locations and online will be suspended until an appropriation is received.

When will I be able to play Powerball again?

When a Fiscal Year 2018 appropriation for the Illinois Lottery is passed, the Lottery will work with the Multi-State Lottery Association to determine a path for the return of Powerball sales. The timing is unknown.

If I cross state lines and purchase a ticket in another state, can I claim my prize here in Illinois?

Mega Millions and Powerball tickets purchased outside of Illinois must be claimed in the state they were purchased.

If I won playing Powerball and/or Mega Millions prior to the suspension and haven’t yet claimed my prize, will Illinois Lottery retailers and Claim Centers still pay out my winnings?

All valid winning tickets can be claimed and paid in full until June 30, 2017. If the Illinois legislature does not approve a Fiscal Year 2018 budget appropriation for the Illinois Lottery by July 1, all prizes $25,000 and under can be paid at Illinois Lottery claim centers, until further notice. Prizes $600 and under will continue to be paid by any of the Illinois Lottery retailers statewide.

Will other Illinois Lottery draw games such as Lucky Day Lotto or Lotto be suspended as well?

No other Illinois Lottery games will be suspended.

What will happen to my Powerball and/or Mega Millions subscription?

All active subscriptions for Powerball and Mega Millions will be cancelled after the last draw on June 28 (Powerball) and June 30 (Mega Millions). The Lottery will issue refunds to players for the remaining length of their subscription.
